REUPHOLSTERY & CUSTOM SEWING WILL NEVER BE LESS EXPENSIVE THAN BUYING NEW FROM A STORE!

Think about getting measured by a master tailor for a bespoke suit. Every inch would be designed to your exact specifications; it would fit you like a second skin.

Now imagine walking into your local department store, pulling a stock suit off the rack, and expecting it to fit the same way.

It wouldn’t. And you wouldn’t expect to pay the same for each, either.

The same is true for re-upholstery and custom sewing. You are hiring a skilled maker, with extensive expertise and knowledge, to build your one-of-a-kind piece.

BUT HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Re-upholstery and custom sewing by a skilled maker are not less expensive than purchasing new, mass-produced, imported pieces from the big box stores.

The price of re-upholstery is completely subjective for each project, based on a number of factors:

Project Size - We have a minimum labor charge of $250 - if your project is relatively small, such as an ottoman or a side chair, you can expect things to start here.

Wear and Tear - Does the cushion need replacing, or just the fabric? Is the frame in good shape, or does it need repairs/refinishing? Repairs and refinishing are $250 and up. Foam and cushion inserts vary dramatically based on quality, density and the number required.

Customization - Are there elements of the piece that you wish were different, other than the fabric? Perhaps you’ve always wanted it to be softer, or more firm? Maybe you’ve dreamed of adding tufting, or removing it? Now’s the time to bring these ideas to the table.

Yardage - What type of furniture is it? How many yards of fabric will it need? Fabric starts at around $60/yard. This means the fabric could cost anywhere from $200 - $600 at a minimum, depending on the size of the piece.

Cover Materials - Some materials, such as leather, velvet, and chintz, accrue a 50% labor markup, and can only be used in certain applications. PLEASE NOTE: As of February, 2022, we are no longer accepting COM (Customer’s Own Material). All fabrics must be purchased in collaboration with Willa Hartt, in order to ensure that we have chosen the proper textile for your project.

On-Site Work - Occasionally larger projects require skilled hands on-site for install! Installation fees start at a flate rate of $100 for the first hour. Every hour after that is an additional $50.
